GlowCaps are a new kind of pill cap with built in wireless communication. They glow orange and play a melody to remind you to take your pills. Other optional services use your home phone, email, and printed reports to help you consistently take your medications.
How do GlowCaps work?
Inside each cap is a little computer that remembers when you open the pill bottle. The cap “talks” wirelessly to a home health gateway. There is also a reminder light which pulses orange to get your attention when any of your GlowCaps pulse orange. Otherwise the reminder light remains calm blue — just like a nightlight.
How do I purchase the GlowCap?
Currently, GlowCaps are not available for purchase by individual consumers.
What size vials does the GlowCap fit on?
The GlowCap fits standard 20 dram vials from the majority of pharmacies.
Dose Schedule & Reminders
How do GlowCaps know my dose schedule?
Each GlowCap pulses on a schedule you set by emailing support@vitality.net. You can select any reminder time on the hour, like 8am or 4pm.
First you select a reminder time (like 8am or 4pm). The GlowCap then starts reminding you by flashing orange. If you haven't opened it within an hour it starts playing a ringtone to get your attention. If after another hour you still haven't taken the medication inside the GlowCap you receive a reminder call.
Pill Bottles
What happens when my pill bottle is empty?
Your GlowCaps will continue to operate even without pills in the bottle. To sign up for the refill notification service (where available), contact support@vitality.net.
Can I use GlowCaps with another bottle?
GlowCaps are designed to fit standard medicine vials. Each cap has a unique colored band around its base. The cap includes a matching rubberband to slide down over the vial so you remember which vial goes with which cap. To make sure you can use GlowCaps with a vial from your pharmacy, ask your pharmacist for a 20 dram “push down and turn” vial from Rexam.
Batteries
What types of batteries does my GlowCap use?
Your GlowCap uses to 2450 watch batteries, available at most pharmacies.
How long will the batteries last?
Your batteries will last much longer if you take your pill soon after the GlowCap starts to flash. During normal use, the batteries are expected to last about 6 months.
How do I change the batteries?
Pull off the plastic cover on the bottom of the GlowCap. Open the battery compartment by sliding the lid in the direction of the arrow. Insert the batteries as indicated on the inside of the battery compartment with the + side facing you. To see the battery changing instructions, click here.

Who else can see this information? Is it secure?
Just like financial services firms, we use encryption, firewalls, and secure servers to ensure that no one except you, your doctor, or a friend or family member you designate will ever see your personal information. Our privacy policy clearly states that your contact information will never be sold to a third party.
Travel & Range
May I travel with my GlowCaps?
Yes, GlowCaps will continue to glow at your dose time even when you are away. When you return home, the GlowCaps will upload the last 28 times you took your medication. Of course if you travel to different time zones GlowCaps will not know that.
What is the range of the wireless signal that connects the GlowCaps to the network?
The range is approximately 100-150 feet. Note that building materials and other environmental factors may impact the wireless range.
How does Vitality get the information to compile my monthly report?
Each day, GlowCaps relay information to the secure Vitality Network, where your data is stored in our private data warehouse. Each month, our computers automatically print and mail a personalized report card to you and (optionally) your physician.
