GlowCaps are a new kind of pill cap with built in wireless communication. They glow orange and play a melody to remind you to take your pills. Other optional services use your home phone, email, and printed reports to help you consistently take your medications.
How do GlowCaps work?
nside each cap is a little computer that remembers when you open the pill bottle. The cap “talks” wirelessly to a home health gateway that also acts as a reminder light. The reminder light pulses orange to get your attention when your GlowCaps pulse orange. Otherwise the reminder light remains calm blue — just like a nightlight.
How do I purchase the GlowCap?
Currently, GlowCaps are not available for purchase by individual consumers.
What size vials does the GlowCap fit on?
The GlowCap fits standard 20 dram 1-Clic vials found at most pharmacies.
Dose Schedule & Reminders
How do GlowCaps know my dose schedule?
Once you have set up your dose time the GlowCap will be automatically updated with that information. The dose reminders will start the next day.
At your dose time, your GlowCap will flash for an hour until you open it. If your GlowCap is not opened within an hour, then it will also play a ringtone every few minutes for another hour. If at that point you haven't opened your GlowCap you will receive an automated phone call reminding you to take your dose.
Pill Bottles
What happens when my pill bottle is empty?
Your GlowCaps will continue to operate even without pills in the bottle. To sign up for the refill notification service (where available), contact support@vitality.net.
Can I use GlowCaps with another bottle?
GlowCaps are designed to fit standard medicine vials. To make sure you can use GlowCaps with a vial from your pharmacy, ask your pharmacist for a 20 dram "one click" vial from Rexam.
Batteries
What types of batteries does my GlowCap use?
The GlowCap uses one CR2477 3V coin battery, available online or in some electronics stores.
How long will the batteries last?
Your battery will last much longer if you take your pill soon after the GlowCap starts to flash. During normal use, the battery is expected to last about 6-9 months.
How do I change the batteries?
Pull off the rubber cover on the bottom of the GlowCap. Open the battery compartment by twisting the lid in the direction of the arrow. Insert the battery as indicated on the inside of the battery compartment with the + side facing you.
Security
Who else can see this information? Is it secure?
Just like financial services firms, we use encryption, firewalls, and secure servers to ensure that no one except you, your doctor, or a friend or family member you designate will ever see your personal information. Our privacy policy clearly states that your contact information will never be sold to a third party.
Travel & Range
May I travel with my GlowCaps?
Yes, your GlowCap will continue to glow at your dose time even when you are away. When you return home, the GlowCap will upload up to a month of data.
What is the range of the wireless signal that connects the GlowCaps to the network?
The range is approximately 30 - 40 feet. Note that building materials and other environmental factors may impact the wireless range.
How does Vitality get the information to compile my monthly report?
Each day GlowCaps relay information to the secure Vitality Network, where your data is stored in our private data warehouse. Each month, our computers automatically print and mail a personalized report card to you and (optionally) your physician.
